The two politicians engaged in ugly public spats in the run-up to last year’s general elections when Kabogo was trounced.

Their political relationship got sour after Waititu won the Kabete by-election in 2015 following the death of the then MP, George Muchai. Waititu immediately declared his interest to unseat Kabogo the moment he was announced the winner of the Kabete by-election.Waititu declared his interest to unseat Kabogo immediately he was announced the winner of the Kabete by-election.Waititu brewed political rivalry with Kabogo which sometimes turned ugly and embarrassing. Both leaders' political rivalry at some point, saw president Uhuru Kenyatta publicly say that he was unable to visit his home county because of the political wars between the two leaders.

Efforts to unite the two often hit a snag until Waititu was elected the Kiambu governor last year.

During last year’s campaign elections,  Waititu openly clashed with Kabogo at an event that Deputy President William Ruto had attended.

On July 18, 2015, at Muhoho Boys High School in Kiambu, the two leaders exchanged political barbs in Ruto’s presence as other politicians looked on in shock.

At the time, Waititu said he could make a better governor for Kiambu compared to Kabogo.

"They say I am a hooligan but my leadership style works, ‘mnipatie hii kiti ya Governor niwaonyeshe mambo,” Waititu said then.

Kabogo responded to Waititu's  statement saying, “I may not know who will be governor, but I know who will not.”

Waititu was later elected as the Kiambu governor in the 2017 general polls. T

The two politicians’ political relationship has since remained tense even as political pundits observe that Kabogo will make a comeback in 2022.

There are speculations that Kabogo is among people who might be fronted to be Deputy President William Ruto’s running-mate in 2022.#historynow
