February 18, 2014, will remain a day for Makueni Member of Parliament Daniel Maanzo and his wife to remember in their lives. It was on this day that the lawmaker and his wife 'cheated' death after their home was broken into by armed thugs.
While narrating the ordeal, Maanzo who nursed serious head injuries alongside his wife said that the thugs armed with crude weapons broke into their home in Hardy estate, Karen at around 3.00 am.
Maanzo told investigators that the thugs hit him and his wife on the head before making away with Sh10,000, a laptop and two mobile phones. The matter was reported at the Langata police station.
The MP told reporters that he and his wife survived death narrowly.
"The thugs jumped over the perimeter wall and used crude weapons to open the doors and window panes before accessing into the house,'' the lawmaker told journalists then as quoted by Capital FM.
Maanzo and his wife were admitted to hospital and later discharged. Police investigation led to the arrest of a suspect by the name Samuel Oteino. The suspect was arraigned in court and charged with robbery with violence.
However, in early 2015, Maanzo withdrew the case against Mr. Otieno and others, saying that he and his wife had forgiven them.
The suspect was then freed by a Milimani Law Court magistrate.
