The National Super Alliance (NASA) is still facing threats of disintegration even as the co-principals maintain that it is still intact.
Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka last week confirmed that the coalition is still intact even as divisions rock the coalition following Raila Odinga's move to support the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta. This was while he was speaking from his home county Kitui when he voiced his support for the handshake.
However, the coalition is yet to face another phase of disintegration especially on matters relating to who will become the flag bearer in the much anticipated 2022 general elections.
All the four leaders have expressed interest in running for presidency come 2022 including the chief leader Raila Odinga who confirmed this earlier while speaking at a funeral in Western Kenya but later dismissed such claims through his party ODM's spokesperson Denis Onyango in a press.
In the press, Onyango, however, passed a disclaimer that insinuated that Odinga's official communication is what will count.
This means it is still unclear whether he will run or not but the clear perception is that he might run.
The other three co-principals Kalonzo, Mudavadi and Wetangula are also known to be planning to contest. Hon. Kalonzo's supporters from his backyard have declared him their candidate not forgetting the MoU signed between him and Odinga. Should he fail to run then this will be a disappointment to his supporters.
Mudavadi was also selected by his supporters and party affiliates as the presidential candidate come 2022 meaning he will be in the race too. Wetangula on the other side asked these three leaders to allow him to try out the race.
All these sums up together subject the coalition to a probably dangerous break down since there can be no coalition if every party leader intends to run for the presidency.
They should, therefore, sit down and discuss who should be the flag bearer and who should deputize him to avoid such mess when the time is ripe for campaigns.
