The ‘Luo Nation Alternative Voice’ group from Luo Nyanza, under the leadership of John Odenyo is now asking Cord leader, Raila Odinga to retire from active politics.
The group has said Raila should instead take on the noble role of a statesman and consultant for various issues of national concern.
The group in a statement issued on Wednesday stated that the Luo community has continued to languish in poverty because of bad politics, and urged the community to avoid being used as voting machines.
Others who share their views include former Kisumu mayor, Mzee Ondu who advised the community to avoid those leaders herding them to political oblivion, hinting on Raila’s dwindling fortunes as he continues to face rebellion within his own ODM party and Cord.
Cord co-principal, Moses Wetangula has also asked Raila to step down and back someone else.
The wind of change is blowing across the Luo community with many increasing voices calling for a change of guard in the leadership.
Like the Luo Nation Alternative Voice group, they believe Raila’s politics have impoverished the Luo community.
Raila’s recent Western Kenya tour to popularise his party has faced resistance from supporters of other factions and Wetangula was conspicuously missing from the entourage.
