Waiguru made the widely expected announcement after being presented witha TNA golden membership certificate at the party's Nairobi headquarters.

"This is a major milestone. I am moving from being a technocrat to a politician. It is a major step and I am extremely excited," Waiguru declared.

"This certificate will enable me participate in party affairs, including the Jubilee coalition merger planned for next month," she noted.

Waiguru had in February, an earlier meeting that was convened by Jubilee Steering committee co-chairs Kiraitu Murungi (Meru Senator) and former Minister Noah Wekesa and attended by all Jubilee aligned leaders from Nairobi, announced she was going to challenge incumbent Nairobi governor Dr. Kidero for the top Nairobi county seat.

"After wide consultations from the people close to me, elders and other leaders on the political direction I was to take I have resolved to vie for governor of Kirinyaga County," a beaming Anne Waiguru declared.

It is worth noting than no lesser a mortal than the TNA chair Onyango Oloo welcomed Waiguru to the president's party and handed her a membership certificate.

It is also instructive to note that while handing Waiguru the certificate Mr Oloo was categorical that Ms Waiguru had full State House blessings.

Ms Waiguru will battle it out with incumbent Joseph Ndathi and Kirinyaga Central MP Joseph Gitari, who has also declared interest in the seat.

The latter two are under-dogs compared to Anne Waiguru who enjoys a close political relationship with the president and a massive goodwill from the Kirinyaga people given the way she was hounded out of office in a move spear-headed by the opposition Cord.
