Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru may well be on her way to become the first female governor in Kenya after she clinched the Kirinyaga county Jubilee Party ticket.
Waiguru trounced a group of seasoned male politician by garnering 100,632 votes, followed by Kirinyaga Central MP Gitari Gachoki who scooped 46,678 votes, while the incumbent governor Joseph Ndathi managed only 11,556.
However, a big question is how did Waiguru managed to pull such a fete in Kirinyaga in her first attempt yet she had never campaigned much in the region, the closest she came was holding her homecoming that was ttended by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

But, one factor that might have lifted Waiguru's prominence was her witty move to team up with Ms Wangui Ngirichi a known aggressive and flamboyant campaigner who aspires for the Women Rep seat.
This teaming up also boosted Waiguru because she came from a strong political base in Gichugu while Ngirichi a Mwea resident married in Kirinyaga meant resources and political network.
Another, person credited with her rise maybe be the incorporation of current Jubilee chairman John Mithamo 'Wasusanna', a local in Ndia.
