Governor Nathif Jama has found himself in court battles, a fact that will evidently pose a setback in his pre-election campaigns.
What many concerned citizens of Garissa County are now asking where the rain started beating the governor?
The election that led to Governor Jama's tenure in office in 2013 was the first of the string of court battles that Jama has gone through.
Upon being declared the county governor by the Isaac Hassan-led commission in March 2013, Abdikahim Osman Mohamed filed a petition challenging the declaration. The case was referred to the Supreme Court where the then CJ Willy Mutunga and his bench unanimously ruled that Jama was duly elected.
This never marked the governor's troubles.
On several other occasions, Jama has been linked with high-profile corruption cases. Recently, he was summoned to appear in court over alleged flaws in tender awards, a case that is yet to be ruled. The judge released him on bond pending the hearing and determination of the case.
As his legal woes continue, the criticisms of the county's elected politicians are adding salt to Jama's already bleeding injuries.
Last month, Senator Haji faulted the governor over incompetence. A few days ago, Garissa Township legislator also accused the governor of being a failure.
What is now evident is that Governor Jama will have a hard time cleaning the mess even as the election period draws nearer each day.
