The Jubilee government has allocated Sh300 million for the construction of three mega dams in Meru County.
President Uhuru Kenyatta said this will ensure that the water development initiative that his governmnet began, continues to benefit every resident, providing adequate water for farmers in the region. He also promised that a land registry would be opened in Kianjai to enhance service delivery on land matters in the County. Accompnaied by his deputy William Ruto, Uhuru commissioned upgrade works to bitumen standard of the Laare-Ndumuru road. "Once complete, residents of Laare will be able to travel to Isiolo in 30 minutes, a major improvement from the current 4 hours," he said.
He also left Miraa farmers with goodies.
For the first time in Kenya's history, he said miraa farming was at the centre of cash crop agriculture in the country.
"At the Ministry of Agriculture, through AFA, we have put in place a directorate whose mandate is on Miraa only."
He revealed the government had set aside Sh2 billion to help Miraa farmers develop their trade and ultimately their lives.
"Do not listen to the propaganda being propagated around Miraa farmers' registration. The registration we are doing is to benefit Miraa farmers through cooperatives that the Government will use to give out loans to enhance the industry," he affirmed, Saturday.
Uhuru who spoke during Jubilee Party campaigns in the Mt Kenya region county, reminded residents of Kianjai, Nchiru and Ngundune to "shun leaders who propagate divisive politics as it would not progress our country but lead to destruction."
