For the last 24 years, a women group in Njoro has proven to be a force to reckon with. Just like its name suggests, Simama Imara Women Group aims to set a phenomenal legacy in that agriculturally-rich sub-county of Nakuru.
With 14 members, the group has ventured into income-generating projects which have played a pivotal role in its growth and development.
In fact, the group attributes its success story for having successfully obtaining loan from the Women Enterprise Fund, which they say empowered them economically
Having now obtained their fifth loan of Sh 500,000 in September 2015. The group bought 100 seater tent and plastic chairs. They say this created to them a source of income. They say business has been good since then and are now able to share over Sh 11,000 each year as bonus to every member.
The group also buys and sells cereals such as beans every year and now have 45 bags of beans in storage ready for sale.
What is more, every group member has a dairy cow, which was bought through the group’s efforts of mobilizing resources together. On top of that, they also have a table banking model that enables members to take up soft loans which more often have been used to facilitate in buying sheep and investment in poultry farming.
Upon inquiry of their success story, the group attest to the fact that it is by following and abide by their groups by-laws that has enabled them to repay loans effortlessly without any difficult, and above all, being disciplined is key to the group.
