It is speculated that Uhuru will unveil his cabinet not later than this week as parliament’s leadership is scheduled to meet the president and his deputy on Monday to deliberate on the Legistlature’s calendar.

If this happens then the legislators will be compelled to push their Christmas recess which was initially scheduled for Thursday, December 7 to December 21, to facilitate the vetting of nominees by the Appointment Committee chaired by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

According to the procedure laid down, The House Plenary will have the final say on the cabinet nominees, before the president makes the appointments. However, National Super Alliance (NASA) affiliated legislators have distanced themselves from the vetting process, arguing that the president illegitimate and do not recognise his choices.

Anxiety as taken the better part of the current cabinet secretaries as they are in doubt of retaining their posts.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has since issued a directive to all cabinet secretaries to prepare handover notes in their respective ministries, to facilitate a smooth transition.

Sources close to Jubilee administration disclose that Uhuru is planning to increase from 20 to the maximum 22 provided for in article 152 of the constitution.
