Kenyatta University, just like any other university in the country and even beyond the border, tries to keep its name clean and marketable. The university vision: "To have a dynamic caring centre in the provision of relevant and timely support for students in need" has always been upheld by everyone in the campus. However, when you are trying to embrace what is good and that which can enable you achieve great things, others, mostly enemies, will always try to spoil your game plan.Back in 2014, Kenyatta University’s mission statement, "To effectively co-ordinate provision of quality welfare services to facilitate development of high moral values and sound life skills among students" was put to the test when a fake memo was circulated online. The move is said to have been intended to spoil the university’s reputation and legacy. An ‘unknown enemy to the university’ released and widely circulated the memo, which called on students at KU’s main campus to ‘only masturbate in their beds and not in the washrooms’.The memo was circulated on different social media platforms with the news spreading like wildfire.“Our drains are not built to withstand semen, the university spends thousands of money in maintenance because of the amount of semen stuck in the pipes. The repair cost will be directly reflected in your fees requirement next Academic year,” read the memo in part.Students at the campus received the news with shock, wondering how the society would now view them.A section of students, who seemed to have believed the very convincing memo which looked exactly like other official memos dispatched by the university’s management, was more concerned about why they should pay the maintenance cost for something that wasn’t their fault. It was later revealed that the memo was fake, and was an edited version of an announcement by The University of Kansas (KU).
