Former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo has warned the Deputy President William Ruto against referring to the Luo community as militia saying he is a beneficiary of the community.

During an interview with international television channel CNN, Ruto had indicated that an organized militia, sponsored by the opposition leader Raila Odinga had prevented an election in the Luo Nyanza region.

Midiwo has however rubbished Ruto’s claims saying the picketers were locals who were expressing their dissatisfaction in the electoral body, IEBC and their urge not to participate in the repeat elections.

“You cannot call locals who are expressing themselves through demonstrations a militia. In fact, it is the Luos who made Ruto whom he is today,” Midiwo said.

“Ruto’s sentiments are unfortunate and is an indication of ethnic profiling,” Midiwo added.

The former MP, however, reiterated that an outlawed sect masquerading as police officers were behind the skirmishes witnessed in the Luo Nyanza region during the presidential repeat polls.

“People in police uniform maimed, killed and even raped young girls and old people in Nyalenda and Obunga areas,” he added.

According to a report released by amnesty international, police have been accused of participation in the chaos witnessed in Kisumu on the 26th of October where at least two people lost their lives.

Kisumu county commander John Kamau has however declined to comment on the report saying he will only comment once he has read the information contained in the report in depth.
