The National Super Alliance (NASA) principals are today, Sunday, expected to commence final talks to settle of a flag bearer.
The one-day retreat is a “make-or-break” meeting that could decide the fate of the opposition coalition.
ODM leader Raila Odinga, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi of ANC and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula will meet in South Coast to hold discussions on who will become NASA’s presidential candidate and the power sharing deal.
A source close to the principals has revealed that the four arrived at the meeting venue Saturday evening.
The four NASA principals yesterday were in different places ahead of the talks.
Last week, reports emerged that the Technical Committee had settled on a Raila-Kalonzo line up, just like in the 2013 polls.
According to the leaked document, Mudavadi was to occupy the chief minister post (equivalent to the prime minister position) and Wetangula to become speaker of the National Assembly, if NASA forms the next government.
Amani National Congress however denied the reports, saying no conclusions had been made.
“Our members in the NCC and technical committee are not aware of a decision having been made. We are, however, aware of many working documents and proposals under discussion in the two committees,” said Godfrey Osotsi, ANC’s secretary general, as quoted by The Standard.
Siaya Senator James Orengo who is a member of the NASA national Coordinating Committee said a report by the technical committee had been shared with the principals.
The committee was tasked with identifying the most ideal line up to face Jubilee candidate, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
