In an exclusive interview with Baraka FM, Alkenia, whose real name is Alfonse Suleiman, said that his stage name was coined from Alfonse and Kenya.
He said he started singing when he was in primary school, and used to sing in church on Sundays.
It was during this time that he discovered his great talent.
He said he recorded a gospel album, which did not do as well as he expected, prompting him to switch to secular music.
He, however, maintained that he is still a staunch Christian.
