[Photo: The-Star.co.ke]The National Super Alliance (NASA) is yet to announce their presidential candidate who will challenge President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8, polls with less than 4 months remaining. Political pundit Wycliffe Muga has analysed the main difficulties that puts NASA in dilemma it seeks to pick one of the four principals to be the flag bearer.A leaked document revealed that NASA technical committee settled on a Raila-Kalonzo ticket which was not warmly received by Mudavadi and Kalonzo's supporters. In his hypothesis, Muga says it will be difficult for NASA to pick a candidate because the nation is already divided."Why there will be problems when they announce him is Kenya is deeply divided. Not just Jubilee and NASA but also divided within those alliances. Thats why Bomet governor Isaac Ruto is still going strong, even with DP Ruto fighting him, so is Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, who flourishes despite DP Ruto's influence in the Rift. This means Kalenjin voters are not united as you might think and why strong Central candidates are opting for small parties. They know they are strong enough to win in other parties," said Muga. The other reason, Muga cites as a challenge for NASA's quest for a flag bearer is the party structures in the coalition."The weaker party structures in NASA are clear, if they settle for Raila, Kalonzo must explain to his people why he should play second fiddle, so is the case for Raila idf Kalonzo bags the ticket," he said.Muga also said, NASA opponents President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, are not mediocre but seasoned politicians who will hit back at any principal, the coalition picks."They (Uhuru and Ruto) too will mobilise people in NASA's 'excluded' regions Nyanza, Western or Ukambani. They will say your leader wasn't serious, he's happy to be number two and doesn't want the presidency," said Muga. From all side, according to Muga, NASA is between a rock and a hard place in their quest to pick a flag bearer."So there is fear how NASA's decision will be used against them in their backyards. There will be fallout, minimal or major. At the end of the day, NASA has a tough decision and the grassroots initially will be very unhappy," he said.
