The botched meeting between Deputy President William Ruto and retired President Daniel Arap Moi is a big embarrassment to the DP's quarters.
Ruto's attempt to meet Moi at his Kabarak home in Nakuru county on Thursday failed, having to leave as the ex-leader was reportedly having a session with his doctor following his recent knee surgery.
However, the excuse seems suspicious and should act as an alarm to Ruto, who has not been in good terms with Moi's son and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi over an unending Rift Valley supremacy tussle.
It is most likely that Moi deliberately evaded Ruto who has since announced his bid for the Presidency in 2022, a position Gideon is also obviously keen on clinching.
It is questionable how Moi could not manage to meet a whole Deputy President despite being within the area, when he managed to make time for National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga, technically a nobody in Kenyan leadership.
This is a clear indication that the second-in-command does not have the former head of state's blessings in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
It could also mean that he will have it hard garnering the entire Rift Valley vote in the coming polls, as Moi still commands a portion of the region.
Its possibly a justification of the allegedly ongoing plans between royal families to sabotage his bid following the recent chain of handshakes led by Odinga who also went ahead to meet former President Mwai Kibaki and President Kenyatta.
