Looks are an important part of who you are.

Any issues relating to your appearance go straight to your heart.  Society has long painted a picture of 'fat' as being ugly.

There's a lot of body shaming comments that overweight people endure in their day to day encounters.

The most hostile area is the media.

TV tends to glorify the 'skinny' woman.  Social media is even worse since it's not regulated.

An overweight individual can post a picture of themselves and get a lot of terrible comments. Even worse are the insults and attacks than often are.  It's not only overweight people that get body shamed, but also people with fat in the 'wrong' places.

One can be thin but somehow have lots of belly fat.

They can be subject to ridicule.  People feel that they have a right to attack overweight individuals since they feel that they are to blame for their plight.

They assume that they either eat too much or never exercise or both.

They feel that overweight people don't care about themselves due to the fact that being overweight also bears health risks.  The same way we don't parade and blame alcoholics or people with cancer due to years of smoking but rather try to help them, is the same way we shouldn't blame overweight people.

The idea is to be supportive and encourage them to be healthy and fit.

Attacking them often worsens their situation since they develop low self-esteem, low self-worth and possibly depression.
