On Monday, the National Super Alliance (NASA) took her campaigns to the Eastern Kenya, pitching a tent at Machakos Golf club grounds for a political rally, despite the many promises they uttered in their speeches there was a clear message the leaders wanted the Ukambani people to stomach.
Yes they talked about free education for secondary school students from September, dubious cartels sabotaging the sugar milling industry in the Mulembe nation, reigniting the Konza city technopolis dream and many other promises you may have heard but one issue was constant through out their speeches.
The subject of a one-term Raila presidency was alas! The key message the leaders had for the Ukambani people at Masaku and beyond Kibwezi and the Yatta plateau.
Boy! the one-term presidency message was stressed to coerce the Kamba nation to vote for the opposition flag bearer Raila Odinga and also an assurance that the son of Jaramogi will back their son Kalonzo Musyoka in 2022.
Voices of discontentment have been heard severally from the region after it was announced that Kalonzo was again standing as Raila's running mate, seasoned politicians from the region shouted at the highest decibels contesting the NASA decision, hence the coalition had to revisit the issue when they faced the voter on Monday.
The son of Tseikuru was first on stage to assure his people he was not a foll when he decided to step down for Raila Odinga.
"We agreed that we all shelve our ambitions of becoming President to back Raila. We signed a deal, which is now a public document, that he will only be a one-term President," Kalonzo said.
The former Vice President also took time to consolidate his numbers in the region as he eyes the 2022 ultimate prize.
"I want you to vote more Wiper candidates and bring more seats. When that time comes, I will ask my brothers to consider whoever has brought more seats and I know I will," said Kalonzo.
Even if the other leaders may not have talked about the 2022 succession politics Kalonzo might have been their messenger to confide to the displeased Ukambani voter that Raila is a one-term president and that their son still stands a chance in 2017.
Will NASA consider Kalonzo in 2022 whether Raila wins or lose? Be the Judge.
