Deputy President William Ruto is holed up at the Jubilee Party headquarters in Nairobi to ensure the nominations go on smoothly.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday apologised to party supporters who turned up to vote on Friday but found no proper arrangements for the primaries’ kick off.

The President said they did not expect a huge turn-out for the exercise, hence the few ballot papers.

“We have brought on board all stakeholders to ensure the nominations remain free and fair. May the best candidates carry the day,” Jubilee Party vice chairperson David Murathe said on Sunday.

Murathe further dismissed reports that top Jubilee leadership had a preferred list of candidates.

“The DP (Ruto) is a national leader. He is focused on national politics and wants to see all Kenyans have a better life. He is ready to work with everyone elected by wananchi,” he said.

The party, and others, are expected to submit the list of its nominees on Wednesday, April 26.

The climax of the nominations will be on Wednesday in Nairobi. The most awaited battle is between Senator Mike Sonko and Peter Kenneth, who will fight for the gubernatorial ticket at the ballot.

Jubilee will hold the elections today, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Murathe said they have printed six million more ballot papers.

“We have printed more than six million ballot papers. To ensure fast movement of the ballot papers and boxes, we have hired a truck for each constituency,” he said.
