New details have emerged regarding the delayed talks between President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga.
It is alleged that NASA's insistence on having electoral justice on the agenda as the main reason for derailed talks.
According to The Nation, the talks fronted by envoys were to take place last month but electoral reforms led to the plan being dropped.
It is alleged that NASA 's push for electoral system was seen by Jubilee Party as a ploy that would be used to trigger a fresh Presidential election.
A move strongly opposed Deputy President William Ruto who said that the such a move will negatively affect his 2022 presidential ambitions.
President Kenyatta had reportedly agreed to most of NASA's agenda for the talks; particularly police reforms, strengthening devolution and improving the Judiciary US Ambassador Bob Godec, who has led the push for dialogue, is said to have met the NASA leadership at least 12 times in an attempt to convince them to drop the oath plan.
It later emerged that Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the US government’s Bureau of African Affairs Donald Yamamoto, intervened to have Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, and Moses Wetangula stay away from the swearing-in.
Raila was sworn-in last week at Uhuru Park, a rally that was not attended by three other principals.
