Mr Mbugua has been the acting head of the authority since March 2017. His appointment comes barely nine months following the sacking of five senior managers including former CEO Ng’ang’a Munyu. The sacking of the seniors is to pave way for an audit into how billions of shillings were spent in primary schools' electrification programme.Ms Rose Mkalama (company secretary), Ms Joan Riitho (audit manager), Ms Elizabeth Onoka (human resource) and procurement manager Mr Wilfred Oduor were also asked to step aside to pave way for the investigation.“I feel greatly honoured by the Board and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to be confirmed as the next chief executive officer (CEO) of REA,” Mr Mbugua expressed. He further added, “It is an expression of confidence on me to take charge of this great organisation to deliver its goal of providing energy solutions for better lives to our Kenyan people.”Mr Mbugua takes over at a time when the agency plans to start procuring materials used in the construction of electricity lines from local manufacturers and assemblers.“As an authority we have specifically identified the manufacturing sector as one key area which REA will focus on to create more jobs for the youth in our country.
