On Tuesday, June 19, the nation woke up to the sad news of the departure of Migori Senator Ben Oluoch Okello.
Okello who reportedly succumbed to throat cancer lost the fight for his life while undergoing treatment at the MP Shah heath facility in Nairobi.
Okello was formerly a journalist before he downed his tools to join the political arena.
He got his journalism skills at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) in Nairobi's South-B before joining the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
He then joined and worked with the Royal Media Service (RMS) owned-Radio Ramogi as a presenter, where he was nicknamed B.O.O by his fans and listeners.
He abandoned his position at Radio Ramogi in the run up to the concluded August 8 general elections, and proceeded to beat then Migori County Assembly Speaker Gordon Ogolla to secure the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) senatorial ticket.
He went ahead to win the position in the final contest, replacing former holder of the position Wilfred Machage who opted out and ran for the Kuria West parliamentary slot, garnering 68, 194 votes against Ogolla's 28, 696.
His body has since been moved to the Lee Funeral home, as leaders and Kenyans continue streaming in their shock and condolences.
