The lecturers’ strike that has so far affected learning in many of the public universities is set to continue after UASU representatives failed to agree on a back-to-school formula.

Speaking on Wednesday, UASU Secretary General Constantine Wesonga said they have not agreed on anything, and their standstill remains.

“The strike is still on. Our demands are as we stated then when we went for the strike. We agreed on a raft of issues, and one of them was that the CBA was supposed to be implemented on this year,” said Wesonga.

“Today only five universities have implemented the salaries and remunerations we agreed on,” he added.

Wesonga has further insisted that they have not introduced new demands in their clamour for a better pay, saying it is a ploy to turn the public against them.

“This time we have agreed to finish our demands so that we can go back and stay for even three years without going on strike,” he added.

The strike, the second in this year, has paralyzed learning in 31 public universities, with many already closed.

The dons are demanding for the implementation of a Collective Bargaining Agreement, which they have insisted must be implemented first before they call off the strike.
