Here are some of the politicians who prepared the political field for the younger set of leaders.

Koigi Wa Wamwere

The former Subukia lawmaker has maintained his figure in the Nakuru political arena.

Having made a name for himself in the 70's, after collisions with the Kenyatta's regime, leading to his arrest and detention in 1975, the veteran politician has remained one of the most popular political personalities in not only Nakuru but the entire nation.

He is known as the liberation fighter who caused sleepless nights for President Daniel Moi regime, leading to another series of detentions.

He has since joined the opposition coalition, National Super Alliance (NASA), in criticizing the Jubilee Government.

Kihika Kimani

Dixon Kihika Kimani is also one of the leaders that Nakuru is unlikely to forget.

Having represented three constituencies in his political tenure, until his death in 2004, Kimani is remembered as one of the closest lawmakers to retired President Daniel Moi.

He was the MP for Nakuru North, now Subukia, from 1974-1979 and later successfully vied for the Laikipia West parliamentary seat, representing the constituency between 1992-1997.

Kihika came back to Nakuru afterwards and was the MP for Molo from 1997 to 2002.

His daughter Susan Kihika has followed suit and is currently the Nakuru county Senator.

Mirugi Kariuki

He represented Nakuru Town constituency from 2002 until he met his death in a plane crash in 2006.

Mirugi was a bosom friend to former President Mwai Kibaki and doubled up as the Assistant Minister of interior in the Kibaki regime.

He also left a mark as one of the leaders whose footprints might never be wiped off by the area residents.

He was succeeded by his son William Kariuki Mirugi on a NARK-Kenya ticket.
