Residents of Mlimani estate in Kisii have had their property vandalised in the last one month by an anonymous gang despite the heavy presence of police in the area.

This has caused fear among town residents who argue that the gangsters would eventually get into their homes since the place considered to be safest in town had been attacked in several occasions with residents losing valuables.

According Winnie Njeri, a resident of Mlimani, the gang has been using unknown tactics to even force their way through in overprotected homes.

“Theft has become a norm here. Some of our compounds are overprotected but in my case, they managed to get in and stole my electronics worthy Sh200,000,” she said.

“It is ironical that an estate near Kisii Central police station is undergoing all this. This is the place people expect to be safe since police are all over,” argued John Mochama.

According to the victims, the thugs have identified weekends as most appropriate time to execute their stealing spree indiscriminately.

“What worries me is that they have been coming on Fridays and Saturdays. Our police force is simply sleeping on the job because we have reported the matter several times,” Mochama added.

However, on Thursday, area OCPD Tom Mutisya defended his officers from the blame and assured them investigations were ongoing to apprehend perpetrators.

“I have heard their concerns and we are investigating the matter. Soon we are through with investigations, we will bring executors to book,” he said.
