President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured Kenyans that he will ensure there is more maize flour in shelves from tomorrow.

Speaking on Monday when he went to present his nomination papers to the IEBC, Kenyatta said he feels what Kenyans are going through, and that his government was determined to step in and help.

The subsidised unga hit the shops two weeks ago, but several outlets limited customers to only two and at times three packets each.

The price of the commodity has raised issues as well, with many customers lamenting that the flour was retailing at Sh130 instead of the Sh90.

"Kuna unga lakini shida ni kuna demand kubwa (We have maize flour but the problem is that the demand is too high,” he said while addressing locals at Dohnolm.

"Hatutaki njaa Kenya...sisi si serikali ya propaganda...sisi ni serikali ya kuunganisha (We do not want hunger in Kenya. We are a government of unity, not propaganda)," he said.

The matter has become a political campaign tool in the recent past, with NASA leader Raila Odinga taking a swipe at the government over the weekend during their rally.

"Wanalipa wakulima wa Mexico halafu wanasema eti unga ni Sh90. Hii unga iko kwaDP William Ruto na State House kwa Uhuru (They paid Mexican farmers and then reduced the price of maize flour to Sh90. The flour is at Ruto's home and in State House)," Raila said when he addressed supporters at Jacaranda grounds in Nairobi.
