Senate Deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki. He has advised NASA to come and argue their case pertaining the electoral law amendments on the floor of Parliament. [kahawatungu.com]Senate Deputy Speaker Prof Kithure Kindiki has said that there will be no backtracking on Jubilee's side regarding amending the electoral law.Kindiki said that the purpose of Parliament is to make laws, and as such, is doing what it ought to be doing and therefore, Jubilee shouldn't be vilified for introducing amendments that will 'ensure smooth elections'."Our advice to the Minority is that they should come and make their argument on the floor of the house and not on the streets. Who knows they might convince us to change our mind," Kindiki told Citizen TV's Opinion Court on Thursday. He added: "The future of Kenya is in using the laid legal framework and institutions we have to articulate our views however different they are.To know if a law is a good law, you must imagine the law as it applies to your worst enemy. This one is a good law."However, National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi rubbished the electoral law amendments saying Jubilee leaders need serious counselling."The petition shocked the leaders to an extent they do not know what to do.We cannot amend laws to affect an ongoing process. Let Jubilee sober up and not act out of anger," said Mbadi. He opined that Jubilee was fighting the Supreme Court judgment and ‘imaginary’ enemies within IEBC through the intended amendments. He asked the electoral agency ignore the amendments because they are 'unconstitutional'.Political Analyst Prof Edward Kisiangani was of the view that Jubilee is 'rushing to make amendments that seem to guarantee them a smooth win' on October 26."The amendments are an attack on our legislative order as a country. We should be looking at why presidential polls in Kenya are emotive and how to cure that," he said.
