Mbadi says Cord is intact, and that negotiations on who should be the coalition's flag bearer in next year’s polls are ongoing.

He said that claims by some politicians that there is tension and discord in the coalition are not true.

“Some people are spreading propaganda that there is tension in Cord which is not the case,” he said during a rally in Kisii town on Sunday.

Mbadi stated that the three principals have equal chances of being endorsed but maintained that ODM leader Raila Odinga will be on the ballot paper.

The Suba MP stated that the coalition's flag bearer will be named soon.

“We want to study the political environment before announcing our 2017 candidate,” he said.

Last week, Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama claimed that the coalition had settled on its presidential flag bearer.

Muthama said that they were waiting for the right time to announce the 2017 candidate.

Pressure is mounting on Cord to name its 2017 flag bearer with sources intimating that the coalition could endorse ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi to pair with former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.

However sources say that some members are opposed to the coalition backing Mudavadi.

According to insiders, the coalition is studying various strategies that will see the right candidate endorse for the seat.

Raila has on several occasions exuded confidence that the coalition will send Jubilee government home come 2017.

Both cord principals Raila, Kalonzo and Moses Wetangula have shown interest in vying for the top seat.
