Mombasa County Governor, Hassan Joho refers to himself as 001, the name of his county and is the first Governor of Mombasa.
This county was named 001 for specific reasons. All the 47 counties in Kenya have their specials codes with no logical order.
Mombasa County has code 001 while Nairobi County has a code 047.
While these codes have no logical order, they are believed to be assigned in correlation with the old provinces in Kenya.
The coast region, believed to be far end side of the country, was given the priority to start in assigning codes to different counties.
To distinguish them, Mombasa was given code 001 due to the fact that it was the most populous county in the coastal region.
The list then moved from the coast, eastern side of Kenya to western side counties. However, until today no one knows why Nairobi was assigned code 047 for the last County, but it is not in the far west of the country.
These county codes were given to all the 47 counties across the country during the drafting of the new Constitution.
Mombasa is the only county most associated with its code, 001.
