On completion, the dam will hold 4,000 thousand cubic metres of water.

Prof Wakhungu said that the government is committed to ensuring that there is sufficient water in every part of the country.

During the visit, the CS also broke the ground for the water treatment plant.

"I just wanted to ensure that the work is on target and as you can see, we are half-way through. The treatment plant is designed to be complete by December 2015 and it will supply around 4,000 cubic metres to the residents of broader Gatundu area per day," said Wakhungu.

The CS noted that there was no enough water in the area despite having many rivers meandering through the landscapes.

"We know there has been water stress here but many parts of Gatundu South will have adequate water after this project as well as some parts of Gatundu North," said Prof Wakhungu.
