Mr Ndii said that the revelations had nothing to do with the anti-corruption agenda and were part of a calculated, sinister scheme to finish Deputy President William Ruto for political purposes and to preserve President Uhuru Kenyatta in the face of a 'stolen' election.

He claimed that the upsurge in revelations of scandals was suspect, saying that it was aimed at fighting political wars.

''This is not about corruption. Corruption is just a sideshow. In fact what you are seeing is the weaponisation of anti-corruption to fight political wars. These have two objectives: One is to finish William Ruto for political purposes and the other one is to sanitise and preserve President Uhuru Kenyatta and shore up his legitimacy in the face of a stolen election,'' Mr Ndii said.

Mr Ndii's words will come as a shock to the supporters of Deputy President William Ruto who want to see him on the ballot in 2022.

His words come as questions continue to be asked about the corruption scandals that continue to grip the country.

He spoke on prime time television on Sunday in a panel discussion.

The renowned economist fielded questions from KTN's Sophia Wanuna in a panel discussion that also featured Auditor General Edward Ouko and Government Spokesperson Eric Kiraithe.
