The Anglican church of Kenya in Ranen, Awendo sub county, Migori County was broken into on Saturday night and altar wine, altar bread, chalice, baptism jug and other items used during service.
The church secretary general Collins Otieno said the choice of things that were stolen were perplexing and they undermined some of the important church activities.
“The thieves broke the door and stole the items that we use in the Holy Communion and baptism and they either consumed the wine or poured it out because we found the bottle in a maize plantation a few meters from the church,” said Otieno.
Otieno appealed to the thieves to return the stolen items saying they will not victimize them as a church.
He said they have reported the matter to Ranen Administration Police camp and the area village elder.
Awendo OCPD Dan Kinywa however said he has not received any report.
Kinywa said an investigation will be launched into the matter when the report is filed and urged the church to give him information on what transpired.
