Residents of Nyamage and Gekomu villages in Kisii are counting loses following a series of robbery incidents in the area apparently targeting students.
In just a span of two weeks, suspected robbers have vandalised the area vanishing with goods worth thousands of shillings mostly electronics.
According to John Onsongo, a student at Mt. Kenya and a victim of the robbery, the suspected thieves have been using a powerful tactic that enables them to enter rooms and execute the crime unnoticed.
“I lost my television set and a smart phone in mysterious circumstances. They are using a new tactic because I was awake till mid night during the material day but only to find my property missing in the morning,” he said.
Ken Wekesa a student at Kisii University narrates the similar incident in which he alleges that he was also awake till late night but only to find his laptop and smart phone missing the following day.
“They must be extremely intelligent beings. I don’t know how they got into my room and vanished with my laptop and phone. It is a mystery to me,” he said.
Independent investigations shows that many residential rooms and hostels in the town are not locked making it possible for robbers to execute their evil.
However, Kisii Town police boss Tom Mutya says the cases have being received by the police department and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
