A middle-aged shopkeeper is admitted at a Keroka hospital after sustaining serious injuries following a raid in his shop by suspected thieves over the weekend.
John Onchoke, who hails from Metamaywa township in Nyamira County, was taken to the hospital by good Samaritans who found him bleeding profusely following deep cuts in his head.
The 11pm Saturday incident also left his wife, Jane Onchoke, with minor injuries -- sustained when she tried to intervene.
According to those who arrived at the scene first, they found the victim in a pool of blood and rushed him to the hospital.
"I was awoken by screams and rushed here. I saw a pickup leaving speedily from this place and when I got to these premises, the victim was crying and we rushed him to Keroka,” said Kelvin Onyoni, a neighbour.
He said the attackers managed to run away with property worth millions of shillings besides taking Sh50,000 cash money at the time of the attack.
Area chief Winston Nyamwaka confirmed the incident and said the matter had been reported to Keroka police station.
“I received the reports this morning from family members and we are pursuing the matter with area police. We will establish the attackers and their motives soon,” he said.
