County Commissioner Kassim Farrah urged primary school heads and other stakeholders to work closely with security officers to secure the gadgets.

Speaking in his Homa Bay town office on Thursday, Farrah confirmed that there are several cases of break-ins witnessed in different schools and the main target are these devices.

The commissioner noted that the loss of these gadgets will be a great inconvenience to the learners.

“The national government distributed the tablets as per the number of standard one pupils, so any loss causes inconvenience,” Farrah said, as quoted by the Star.

“Let school managers work with the national government to safeguard the gadgets.”

A number of schools in Homa Bay Town and Mbita constituencies have complained about incidents of theft.

The loss of the gadgets has affected learning in these schools.

“Some pupils from these schools cannot smoothly continue with their digital learning programmes because the gadgets have been stolen,” Farrah said.

He further said that they have already started investigations into the loss of the gadgets and will release the findings to the public as soon as they are done.

The new laptops are among the pledges made by President Uhuru Kenyatta during their campaigns ahead of the 2013 polls.
