Thika sub-county administrator Rose Kimani has promised to work on the deteriorating state of the Thika town roads, which have been a key hindrance to development in the area.
Speaking to the residents during this year’s celebrations to mark the 51st Jamhuri Day when she read the governors speech to the public, the administrator said that they have received numerous complains from the residents and businesses people in the area.
The administrator revealed that the roads are supposed to be serviced by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and not the county government as most of the people allege.
She said that the county government will see that the roads have been repaired meanwhile, before they are fully serviced by the Kenya urban roads authority.
Thika town roads have been in a bad state, whereby Matatu operators and business people using the roads have been complaining.
Residents also have been complaining about the street lighting, leading to high insecurity levels in the town.
Thika is among the constituency that has received a share of the proposed roads construction from the national government, where the area MP Alice Ng’ang’a had previously revealed that several roads leading to Kiandutu slums, Kiganjo and Muthaiga area will be tarmacked in the course of next year.
She went on to urge the youth to visit her office so that the county government can identify them and be able to organize for seminars and functions, which will be aimed at helping them develop as well as create job opportunities for others.
