The Thika District Business Association (TDBA) secretary General Samuel Njoroge has appealed to Thika traders to remain united to thwart the hiking of levies by the county government.
Njoroge, speaking in Thika Township Ward when TDBA held a meeting to sensitise Thika traders of their constitutional rights on Saturday, said that they will not relent until the county government has reduced the fees to its normal price or else they will take to the street again.
This comes after the Thika traders held a peaceful demonstration to protest against the hiking of the levies paid by the county government last week in what they term as embezzlement and infringement of their rights.
The secretary general said that in partnership with the Kiambu leaders, measures has been put in place to tame the heinous act of the county government and urged the traders to remain calm.
He said, “We have given the county government an ultimatum of 14 days to reconsider their memorandum or else we will mobilise the traders to match to the county hall for explanations.”
Njoroge also appealed to Kiambu leaders to come out in large numbers to end the cruel behaviour by the county government to save the future of business people in Kiambu.
He said youths are the most affected people especially during this period of unemployment in the country and the little business they want to set in place the county is over taxing them.
“The county did it with graves and increased the taxing fee for the dead since they knew the dead could not defend their rights, they will not do it to the living who can say no,” concluded Njoroge.
