Repainting of pedestrian crossings along major roads within Thika Town Central Business District has kicked-off.
According to Thika Township administrator Jessica Mukundi, the existing zebra crossing lines have faded posing a great danger to pedestrians using the roads.
"The zebra crossings need to be visible to both the motorists and the pedestrians using the roads but the ones we have are faded and could no longer serve the purpose they are meant for. Old people and visitors to the town have been having a challenge using them," Mukundi said from her office on Monday.
The exercise that started on Saturday last week, Mukundi, says will continue till all the roads are done.
At the same time, the administrator called on motorists to respect the zebra crossings saying that many of them have a habit of disregarding them.
"The motorists should remember that a pedestrian on the zebra crossing needs to be given the first priority. The vehicles should only pass after all pedestrians have crossed the road," she added.
Pedestrians were also asked to cross the roads where there are zebra crossings to avoid being hit or run over by speeding vehicles.
