Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a has extended the constituency's clean up exercise to ensure all areas are equally dealt with.

Speaking from his office, area CDF chairman Ephraim Njihia said that the legislator extended the period following concerns by residents of Kiganjo and Munyu whose areas had not been cleaned completely during the exercise last week.

Njihia said that the exercise has gained popularity after  women and youths in the area who are jobless were picked and they have been benefitting from it.

He added that they have prioritised the jobs to the youths as they are in the process of fighting alcoholism among the young generation which they plan to keep them busy so that they may not get back to drinking.

The week-long exercise left the area clean and tidy and the chairman says that the experience may lead to more investments in the area.

“We pay fees for garbage collection every month and yet they don’t collect. We took the initiative to offer women and youths who are idle jobs in their own areas and we will be doing so often,” Njihia said.

He said that they are forced to hire a lorry despite having paid for the county government garbage collection lorries.
