A middle aged man who is alleged to have stolen from his client was handed two years jail term without a fine alternative.
Appearing before the resident magistrate Bar too Claire from a Thika court, James Ikua 46 pleaded innocent against the allegation leveled against him.
The charge sheet indicated that Ikua from Makwa who was given a contract of building an apartment by Ann Wairimu Kariuki from the same place.
They signed the task deals with all parties pledging transparency and accountability. During the construction of the third storey, Wairimu inspected the funds she had used in comparison with the project just to realize something wrong was happening.
With the help of her son Anthony Kio who is an accountant at Kenya commercial bank in Nairobi, she investigated the matter which revealed that more than 100 bags of simba cement worth more than Sh 70,000 had gone to waste.
Wairimu recorded a statement with Makua police station that led to an immediate arrest of Ikua on 31st April 2015.
Ikua pleaded with the court for forgiveness claiming that it was his first ever theft scandal.
Giving her ruling, the magistrate warned contractors of taking advantage of old wealthy people by stealing from them. She said the two years will set a good example to such contractors.
