A 33-year-old police officer has been ordered by a court in Thika to pay Sh4,500 every month to his wife for the upkeep of their daughter.

Thika Resident Magistrate Esther Mburu ordered Mr Martin Mwangi to remit the money to Joyce Makena as upkeep money for their three-year-old first born.

Mr Mwangi, 33, had been accused of neglecting his family prompting Ms Makena to seek for legal action against the husband she accused of failing to fulfill his family obligations.

Mr Mwangi will pay the cash every month pending determination of the case.

Ms Makena had filed a suit against her husband seeking custody of the child who was born as the two cohabited in 2014.

The girl at the centre of the suit has been living with Mr Mwangi's mother.

Mburu, during preliminary hearing of the case in September 14 rejected Ms Makena's quoted upkeep fee saying the money was too high and that the police officer would not be able to pay.

Mwangi was allowed to appeal against the court ruling within 14 days.
