Thika West DCC Jeremiah Gicheru has refuted claims by the Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a that he sent police officers to guard Madaraka market instead of intensifying security of Thika people.
Gicheru said that he is not aware of anything about the market being guarded by police officers adding that he has not sent anyone to guard the tax and levies collectors on duty.
The DCC said that he has not received any court order restraining the payment of the increased levies by the county government as claimed by Ng’ang’a on Tuesday adding that court injunction should be served to the county government and not to DCC.
The commissioner further faulted the Ng’ang’a saying that she is just after campaigning for herself and she is using a very long method of expressing herself to the public by accusing other leaders falsely.
Gicheru has however called on the area residents not to give room for such leaders whose aim, according to him, is to see other people fall and lose their jobs for their own benefits.
The officer sad that he will work to discharge his mandate to the public and not to support the political rivalry in the area which has intensified.
“I am not a politician and no one will show me how to do my job. I know my work so well and discharge my obligations accordingly,” said Gicheru.
He added that police officers should be given a chance to maintain law and order and to work in all parts of the sub-county.
The DCC was speaking in his Thika office this morning during a security team committee meeting.
