Kiambu County government is set to drill over 75 boreholes in the semi-arid Thika East Sub-County in a bid to subsidise piped water.
Speaking in Juja on Tuesday, Water and Environment CeC Esther Ndirangu, said the county government realised that the residents of Gatuanyaga, Munyu, Muguga and Ngoliba are using piped water to irrigate their vegetables thus making it insufficient.
She added that the clean water was meant for human consumption and not irrigation thus the need to provide the boreholes to ensure proper consumption of water.
Ndirangu said the project will be part of the supply of clean piped water throughout the county which was launched by the governor earlier at a cost of Sh100 million.
Ndirangu noted that the programme was started in order to end the water crisis that many residents in the county are facing.
She further said that the county government will ensure every household in the county will have access to clean piped water.
“The project is part of the county government’s programme to provide clean water to all households and institutions in the county. The county government launched this programme to address water challenges that many residents in the county are facing,” said Ndirangu.
