The exercise has kicked off starting from Kenyatta highway outside the Thika Sub-county offices.

This comes after students from Mount Kenya University (MKU) complained of their fear walking from school to town as the area near the common wealth cemetery is very dark. The students say there is a risk of attacks from malicious people at that point.

“I fear a lot walking from school to town. I have to spend more money on a bodaboda. The street lights should be replaced to ensure the safety of residents. Many students who have classes that end at 7pm never attend the class because of this area,” said Peter Maina, a student from the institution.

County roads CeC Njeri Gatabaki said that this will make the town safer and also ready for a 24-hour economy.

“We are very concerned with the safety of the residents and traders in this town. We want to have a 24-hour economy effective in most parts of this town. This is why we are repairing all the street lights and we will also make sure we repair all roads in town and the county at large,” Gatabaki said.

The CeC also promised that General Kago road which is in a very bad state is scheduled to be repaired.
