Kiambu county governor William Kabogo has apologised to Thika residents following extensive traffic congestion being experienced in the town roads since Monday.

The roads have been overwhelmed by traffic backup after the commencement of expansion works to entrances and exits in Thika Town. The expansions are meant to reduce traffic jams that have been there since December last year.

Speaking from her office this morning, Kiambu Transport and Roads executive Eng Njeri Gatabaki said that they arrived at the decision after congestion surpassed the limits and slowed down business activities in the town.

“We have noted with concern that most of the businesses in Thika are moving at a slow pace than before. This is due to the traffic jams and that’s why we have embarked on the expansion and rehabilitation of the roads,” she said.

Gatabaki added that the county government is also constructing the footpaths for the pedestrians to give way for vehicles and tame the numerous accidents caused by the bodaboda operators on the roads.

Among the roads being expanded are Garissa Road, Kenyatta Highway and Karatina Road among others in the town.

The Engen, BAT and Gatitu junctions are set to be expanded too to give room for the huge number of vehicles using the roads.

The CeC has said that the governor has sent his apologies for the congestion and that they are moving fast to ensure things normalise.
