This is according to hospital superintendent Dr Andrew Toro who said the 2016 Health Bill seeks to have the hospital upgraded to serve locals efficiently.

He added that the hospital has the required facilities and resources to be upgraded to a referral and teaching status.

“We have tabled a Bill in the Kiambu County Assembly that will see Thika Level 5 hospital upgraded into a referral and teaching hospital,” he told journalists on Monday.

Toro urged Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to debate and approve the Bill.

The Medical Superintendent said the hospital has heavily invested in training, research and innovation adding that getting referral status will make it a world class health facility in terms of service delivery.

He noted that the hospital admits patients from neighbouring Nairobi, Murang’a, Machakos, Nyeri and Embu counties.

He also stated that the hospital has partnered with Mt Kenya University on areas of research and innovation.

Dr Toro said that the county government under the leadership of Governor William Kabogo is determined to provide quality medical care to the people.

Kiambu county executive member for health Dr Jonah Mwangi notes that the county has invested heavily in medical equipment and other health resources.

Mwangi reveals that the county has partnered with local and foreign investors to boost access to health care.

He said adequate funds have been set aside to fund various health programs in the county.

“Adequate funds have been factored in the current budget (2016/2017) to upgrade, revamp and equip all hospitals and health centres as we seek to give the best healthcare to the people,” he said on Monday during a tour of the Thika Level 5 hospital.
