A middle aged man was today arraigned in a Thika court allegedly accused of stealing a pig from his employer.
James Munyua 28 from Murere sisal Ruiru appeared before the chief magistrate Stephen Mbugi and pleaded guilty against the allegations leveled against him.
The chief prosecutor Nancy Muthuri told the court how on 19th April 2015 the accused conducted the ordeal.
Munyua who had been employed for two years by Beatrice Mumbi the pig owner, is said to have stolen the animal on the material date after the departure of Mumbi to her daily chores which he later sold to a nearby butchery for slaughtering.
Munyua was arrested on 20th April 2015 by Ruiru police officers after Mumbi reported them.
According to prosecution, the pig whose cost is estimated to be Sh. 25,000 was about to give birth and that the slaughtering led to loss to the unborn piglets. Martin Murigi a witness told the court that the pig was sold to Duncan Mukiri who owns a butchery in Murera.
“I had paid this man all his dues, he has been a good man for the two years I've employed him but now he has proved to be a thug, this was the only pig I had and the slaughter damaged the unborn piglets,” angrily lamented Mumbi before the packed court.
Munyua on mitigation decried lack of payment for three months a move that prompted the sale which according to him, he sold at Ksh 16,000.
The chief magistrate handed the accused three years in jail and termed the ruling as a lesson to many who steal from their employers. Munyua was however handed liberty to appeal against the ruling within 14 days.
