The thugs, who were unarmed, waylaid the cashier, Nancy Wanjiku, along the corridors of a business centre as she was on her way to deposit the cash with the Sacco's front office bank.

A terrified Wanjiku narrated how the three 'nicely dressed' men met her along the stairs and grabbed the envelope containing the money, pushing her down the stairs as they took off.

She, however, raised alarm, attracting the attention of the touts along the busy town centre who cornered one of the young men and beat him up seriously.

The other two men managed to escape with the money but police on patrol rescued the cornered thug before the touts could set him on fire.

The young man, who had no identification documents, refused to give his names and was ready to die than reveal his accomplices.

By the time of going to press, the young man, who is currently in police custody, has not identified his partners in crime.

A police source told the press that they were following a very crucial lead and that the cashier had already recorded a statement with the police.

Following the incident, Thika West OCPD Shadrack Maithya wondered why the cashier was transporting that huge amount of money without involving the police.

He, however, assured that the investigations are underway to apprehend the culprits involved in the robbery.
