Thika Mau Mau veterans decries of negligence by the government alleging that the Mau Mau fighters have been living under misery and the government is doing nothing to compensate them.
Led by Kimani wa Kang’ethe 70 a Mau Mau veteran, he urged the county government to remember the old who fought for independence in Kenya.
He decried that Thika veterans were not compensated by the old kitty alleging that the money was used to compensate only the Juja constituency which it was believed it will cover the three sub county of the old larger Juja constituency.
He said that Jamhuri day was a day to commemorate the fighters but they are the least priority in the whole event terming as disrespect to independence fighters.
The veteran claimed that last week was Kiambu County’s Freedom fighters week but the county neglected them as if it was a normal week.
Kang’ethe condemned the youngsters who call them digital saying that they should consult the old for leadership ideas to tame insecurity or else the country will fall apart.
“Digital people should come for advice from the analogue, old is gold,” he expressed
He added that the Mau Mau veterans were knowledgeable that they managed to eliminate the ‘mabeberu’ during the fight for independence thus they should be consulted for brighter ideas claiming old is gold.
“The old people who fought for independence are very skillful in matter of security that why we managed to tame colonialism in the country,” he said
He further alleged that the community policing unit has failed in Kiambu citing the many incidents of crimes and drug abuse in Kiganjo, Ngoingwa and Thika town.
The veteran was speaking on behalf of the Mau Mau freedom fighters in Thika town during the Jamhuri day celebration on Friday.
