Bodaboda operators in Thika sub-county have joined hands and formed a group that will help them fight crime.
The group aims at addressing the challenges posed by notorious gangs that take advantage of their vulnerability.
Following concerns of rising attacks on the motorcycle riders, operators in Kiandutu formed the Kiandutu Youth Motorcycle Association to help shield them from such attackers.
While addressing more than 100 operators, Kimemia Muigai, the association chair said that the situation would not be alleviated if the members do not join hands to embrace the agreement.
Kimemia added that the initiative has significantly reduced the rate of crime in the area through involvement of law enforcers.
“We have unveiled this initiative after realising that criminal activities especially in slum area were hindering business especially during night hours when the business is usually at its peak,” Kimemia said.
The association’s activities are contained in a group constitution which every member is bound to, failure to which disciplinary action is taken.
Every group member is bound to make a weekly contribution of Sh200 towards the welfare to streamline its activities in serving the members.
